TYLONN J. SAWYER

Tylonn J. Sawyer is a Detroit-born multidisciplinary figurative artist whose practice spans painting, drawing, and multimedia works that examine the intersections of identity, race, collective memory, and history within popular culture.

Sawyer’s recognitions include a Kresge Arts in Detroit Fellowship, the Alain Locke Award from the Detroit Institute of Arts, and the 2026 Kylemore Abbey Global Centre Residency Award.

His work has been presented nationally and internationally at venues including the Institute for the Humanities at the University of Michigan, N’Namdi Contemporary Gallery in Miami, and the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.

Sawyer holds an MFA in Painting from the New York Academy of Art, Graduate School of Figurative Art, and a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Eastern Michigan University.

He currently lives and works in Detroit, Michigan.
